Locked in a struggle of the fiercest fight,
The Lord Himself was our shield and might;
Let the children of Jacob say,
‘We were saved from hatred and strife today!’
Come, bless the Lord with me
Leading us on to victory;
Come, bless the Lord with me,
Mighty in power and majesty!
They would have swallowed us alive in their pride;
By their angry spite we were terrified;
Waters deep overwhelmed our feet;
We were down on our knees facing sure defeat.
Trust in the Lord; never be dismayed,
Recall that the heavens and the earth He made;
As a bird once captured and then set free
He has won for us life and liberty!
