Psalm 89: Let us publish in song for our children

Resources

Let us publish in song for our children to come
That the Lord, our Redeemer, is kind;
For the sake of His throne let us sing and make known
That His mercy can salvage the blind!

Let all heaven declare with true saints everywhere
That the Lord David’s Offspring did bless,
So throughout this domain He would rise up and reign
Till the nations have entered His rest;
Yes, throughout this domain He must rise up and reign,
Till the nations have entered His rest.

Let the coastlands begin to acknowledge their King
As the psalmist of old tending sheep;
Let them say in sweet song that their hearts too belong
To that Shepherd whose Law they would keep.

Like the waves of the sea man is destined to be
Overwhelmed by the strength of God’s might;
Soon the darkness will fade in this world He has made
In the dawn of His glorious light;
Then all striving will cease in the Day of His peace,
When at last all that’s wrong will be right.

Where is the horn of Your favour and power?
Where is the help of Your hand?
Have You not promised in earth’s darkest hour
The defeat of our foes if we stand?
O strengthen in might, Lord, my heart for the fight,
Be the blade in the sword that I wield;
Overwhelm and defeat every scoundrel I meet,
Be my fortress, defender and shield
‘Till the rivers run dry at the call of Your cry
And the world is healed!

But His sons, filled with pride, in their hearts turned aside
From the words of His covenant Law;
And imagined in vain that because Christ was slain,
They His ancient commands could ignore.

Yet a remnant remains, which by grace is sustained,
Bearing witness to all who are wise;
Who, as stars in the night, testify of His light
To the ones with true faith in their eyes;
Who, as stars in the night, testify of His light
To the ones with true faith in their eyes.

Where is the horn of Your favour and power?
Where is the help of Your hand?
Have You not promised in earth’s darkest hour
The defeat of our foes if we stand?
O strengthen in might, Lord, my heart for the fight,
Be the blade in the sword that I wield;
Overwhelm and defeat every scoundrel I meet,
Be my fortress, defender and shield
‘Till the rivers run dry at the call of Your cry
And the world is healed!

Will the church of the Lord, now cast off and abhorred,
Be upheld before plunder and shame?
Will His anger subside?  Will His face from us hide?
Will the curse of His fury remain?

O strengthen in might, Lord, my heart for the fight,
Be the blade in the sword that I wield;
Overwhelm and defeat every scoundrel I meet,
Be my fortress, defender and shield
‘Till the rivers run dry at the call of Your cry
And the world is healed!
