Ecclesiastes 3 – A Time For All Seasons

A time to live, a time to die
God in His providence decrees;
A time to laugh, a time to cry
Under the gaze of Him who sees.
A time to tear, a time to sew
A time to bear sin’s cruel blow
Then blessed time for me to feel
God’s loving hand on me to heal.

A time to speak, then hold my peace
Marshalling every word I say;
In warfare time for hate to cease,
Help me, O Lord, to seize the day!
The things we build in time break down,
Prompting a smile or angry frown;
The things we keep or cast aside
Moments in time for us provide.

A time to mourn, a time to dance
Seasons of fear and joy we’ve known;
Nothing occurs by mindless chance
Whether with friends or all alone.
O wondrous times of soul embrace
Within that holy hiding place –
Lord teach me, as with greedy gain,
There are occasions to refrain.

What prize is ours for all this toil?
What is the goal of daily chores?
From seed to tree beneath the soil
God is the unseen greater cause.
Wherefore each day I shall employ
My strength for Christ and life enjoy;
Eternity will make me see
All He now orchestrates for me.
