Let us raise up godly seed for Jesus Christ
Let us teach them not the cruel ways of Cain
Let us train them in obedience for life
Till the blessing in God’s Law they each retain!
May they each of God’s commandments learn to keep
May they bind them on the fingers of both hands;
May they meditate upon them while they sleep
And rejoice in only what the Lord commands.

And beseeching God in prayer
When they are slow to learn
We’ll patiently forbear
And anger spurn
For we like them are weak
And stumble every day
Lord teach us to be meek
And measure everything we speak and say.
Help us render true obedience from the heart
Even when the ones we serve are vicious fiends,
In so doing we shall quench the fiery darts
Satan hurls towards us silently unseen.
Make us gentle with the ones whom we command
Let us turn aside from all severity
All we own we have received from higher hands
Which no favour show nor partiality.
