Jeremiah 12 – God’s Righteous Judgement

Resources

Like a tree firmly planted and deep-rooted,
As an olive grove adorned with summer fruit;
Many testify of saintliness excited
With oratory excellent and altogether sweet

Seeds they scatter seem to multiply and prosper
Very frequently great happiness they know
Why then if with treason they betray their Maker
Do they among their brethren in their might and power grow?

Their sentimental words alone mean nothing
For they that manufacture them are blind:
Religion that is casual and worldly
Never heaven’s precepts calls to mind.

You, O Lord, behold the footsteps of my journey
Every thought and inclination You perceive
Many tribulations You have used to test me
And train my heart with steadfastness to trust You and believe.

Like a pasture full of sheep prepared for slaughter
Every creature of their fields will be consumed,
In the floodplain of the Jordan they will flounder
The posterity of My belov’d inheritance is doomed

Their sentimental words alone mean nothing
For they that manufacture them are blind:
Religion that is casual and worldly
Never heaven’s precepts calls to mind.

Masquerading as good shepherds many rulers
Root and branch My holy vineyard have destroyed
They have trodden underfoot her sacred acres
They have superficiality convincingly deployed

Over all the land from one end to the other
Holy vengeance from on high will soon descend
In the time of harvest thorns alone they’ll gather
Deepest sorrow and great shame will be their everlasting end

Their sentimental words alone mean nothing
For they that manufacture them are blind:
Religion that is casual and worldly
Never heaven’s precepts calls to mind.

Yet in time when afterward they have been gathered
And returned unto the kingdom of the Lord
They at last shall be established as My people
And wondrously, like Joseph’s brothers, savingly restored!

Their spiritual indifference will be broken
No longer will their stubborn eyes be blind,
The cause of Christ shall fully be awoken
And shadows of the night left far behind!
