When Elijah ascended Mount Carmel
To contend with the prophets of Baal
All the people were summoned by Ahab
To establish whose words would prevail
Said Elijah, “Why sit on your fences?
Be upstanding and make up your mind;
Will you follow the Lord God Jehovah,
Or a ghost that is deaf, dumb and blind?

O how long will it take you to turn son
From the idols of earth in your eyes
Don’t you know you’ll be charged with high treason
For all counterfeit stories and lies?

There the prophets of Baal built an altar
To give vent to their loathsome desire
Dancing wildly around it while bleeding
They made loud invocations for fire
But alas not a morsel there butchered
Felt the slightest commotion or heat
So a thousand bar hundred and fifty
Rebel priests had to face down defeat….

O how long will it take you to turn son
From the idols of earth in your eyes
Don’t you know you’ll be charged with high treason
For all counterfeit stories and lies?

When Elijah at last laid the pieces
Of his sacrifice down in full view
He poured buckets of water upon it
Till it seemed like a broth of cold stew;
Calling out he entreated his Maker
Saying, “Lord show the people You’re real”
In response to his prayer holy fire filled the air
Sending people all round on their knees to the ground
Recognising the sin they’d concealed!

O how long will it take you to turn son
From the idols of earth in your eyes
Don’t you know you’ll be charged with high treason
For those counterfeit stories and lies?
