History of Redemption

Jonathan Edwards’ great treatise here surveys the ‘big picture’ of human history.  It is an important read for EVERY Christian.  I find it most compelling & extremely helpful in demonstrating how Biblical prophecy is fulfilled.  Edwards is a classic postmillenialist.  Moreover he demonstrates a preference for a historicist approach to the book of Revelation and assumes (with some warrant!) the ‘day-year’ principle of prophetic interpretation.  Not all will be convinced.  I especially commend the latter section  of this great work where he argues compellingly for the bright, final phase of present human history when ‘the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea’ (Is 11:9; Hab 2:14).  For the faint-hearted who have little appetite for the fulness of Edwards’ great work, pick the story up at page 197 (section 4).  In case you’ve never perceived the glorious conclusion of God’s great work peppered throughout the Scriptures, let Jonathan Edwards take you on a sort of ‘Emmaus Road’ adventure.  Enjoy!
