This desert wilderness I see
Is destined to blossom like a rose;
As Lebanon and Sharon radiant shine,
It shall with glory overflow!
Make firm your feeble hands and knees;
Exhort all the fearful to be strong,
For God will visit us with recompense;
In solemn judgement He will come!
Every blinded eye shall then be opened;
Every ear now deaf will hear God’s holy voice;
Then the lame shall leap and muted mouths will sing
The humble-hearted shall rejoice!
The barren land and thirsty field
With streams of refreshment shall revive;
Dark habitations of the hungry wolf
Shall in earth’s fullness come alive!
A royal road shall be revealed –
The ‘Highway of Holiness’ its name;
A noble multitude will walk its way
Yet not a soul who is unclean!
Every blinded eye shall then be opened;
Every ear now deaf will hear God’s holy voice;
Then the lame shall leap and muted mouths will sing
The humble-hearted shall rejoice!
The cruel beasts of all the earth,
Who’ve sought every nation to ensnare,
Condemned by holy truth and sacred Law
Most certainly will not be there!
But true saints will surely come to Zion,
Everlasting joy shall ring from every tongue;
Holy gladness will adorn their every step,
Sorrow and sighing shall be gone!
