The fifth of God’s commands
To sons and daughters sounds
Requiring them to let respect
To Mum and Dad abound.
If honour and esteem
Upon them we bestow
Long life with blessedness each day
From God we’ll surely know.
A child’s obedience
When cheerful, prompt and free
Is, like a bright red summer rose,
A lovely thing to see!
When frail our parents grow
Let us their faults forbear
And may their daily comforts be
Our faithfulness and care.
