Ezekiel 33 – The Watchman

Resources

When the sword is unsheathed on high
For the sins of a land condemned;
And appointing a watchman’s eye,
He a clarion warning sends;
If while trumpeting loud alarm
They that warning refuse to heed;
They shall surely be doomed to harm
For suppressing their deepest need.
But the watchman who danger sees
Yet in silence defers his pleas,
Shall accountable for their blood
By a heavenly Judge be!

Christian, on the city wall, be a
Watchman, warning every heart of stone –
‘You are standing alone
Before the throne of the
Law-Man, seeing what you don’t see,
Oh man! Won’t you go to Calvary?
Are you so numb you don’t feel?
Don’t you see those scars?’

Sure as God in the heavens reigns,
Sure as holiness rules on high,
Retribution the Lord restrains,
Wanting none upon earth to die;
Yet the saint who complacent stands,
Leaving truth for iniquity,
Will, forsaking the Lord’s commands,
Lose that blessing known previously!
Yet if, there at point of doom,
The ungodly beholds his crime,
Penitential, subdued by gloom,
Pleading in the nick of time…

He shall stand before His Maker
Upright, covered by the blood of Christ
With the pearl of great price!
Heed the voice of the
Watchman, seeing what they don’t see
Oh man! Won’t you go to Calvary?
Are you so numb you don’t feel?
Don’t you see those scars?’
