Psalter manuscript

Jeremiah 9 – Sorrow for Jerusalem

Resources

O that my head were fountains of waters
O that my eyes were mountain streams of tears
Nightly my weeping keeps me from sleeping
Stricken my heart is filled with many fears!
Lies and slander among my neighbours
Masquerades poison under their feet
Friendliest brother conspires to murder
Given to sinful deep deceit!

God will refine them during this time when
None of them seeks His holy sanctuary
Sudden disasters ravage their pastures
Gone are the birds from where they used to be
Heavenly precepts to guide their footsteps
They have abandoned spurning their light;
Wherefore with wormwood to numb their hunger
They will languish in their plight.

Let not the wise man glory in wisdom
Let not the strong man trust in might or strength
Let not the richest man in the kingdom
Glory in secret treasuries of wealth.
God’s great goodness and wondrous kindness
Over the earth He daily displays
Righteous judgement without injustice
Marks His hand in all His ways!

O that my head were fountains of waters
O that my eyes were mountain streams of tears
Nightly my weeping keeps me from sleeping
Stricken my heart is filled with many fears!
